Spoon Knifes and Spoonfest

So over the last few weekends me and a friend of mine attended Spoonfest in Edale.  This event was a first of its kind promoting spoon carving.  So before we left we experimented with making some of our own spoon knifes. A little bit of amateur blacksmithing, if you can call it that.  Bloody good fun.  Had a great time at Spoonfest and met some amazing people, cant wait for next year.  But until then a few pictures of our blacksmithing attempt!

She's all Done!

All the pollys that Ive been working on for such a long time are now finished.  Semi rigid Casts were taken from the original molds from the film Pirates in an Adventure with Scientists, and reassembled and posed.  Some resculpting had to be done and a whole set of new molds made. Ten Casts were then produced and painted and final assembled.
The original sculpt was done by Andrew Bloxham and the wonderful paint job by Ruth Mitchell of makeupandmodels-http://rmmakeupandmodelmaking.wordpress.com
I hope you like them!

Robot by Kate Berry.

I thought I would share this with you.  This is a robot that my mate Kate Berry has been making in her lunch hour for the last couple of months.  There are going to be ten colourways ways of this little fella, they will reflect the personalities of each of there owners.  Which I'm going to be one of, which I'm very excited about.  I will hopefully post pics of each of the colourways as they become available in the next month or so. I think he looks great and can't wait to put him on my self at home, awesome work Berry!

Pirate Captain and Polly!

So here are the two characters I worked on during the making of the film, Pirates in an Adventure with Scientists, the Pirate Captain and Polly.  I worked in a small team with some very talented people and had a great time doing it.  We may have been just handling two characters through out the whole film but there were many costume changes and lot of the captains had to be made!

First post!

So this is my first post.......hope it wont be my last!  I hope to fill these make believe pages with interesting images, facts and techniques that I've used over the years working as a model maker.  I hope they will be of some interest to you, the people of the web!
This is Burly one of my favourite characters from the film, Pirates in an adventure with scientists.  Made by Aardman Animations.  I cant take any credit for this great character as I never had the privilege to work on him, but i thought I would share this photo with you anyway!  I loved working on this film, from the design, the people and the good times I had while I was there.  I hope to share more photos of my work on this project very soon. Thanks for popping by!
